Chainalysis Public Sector Summit: Crypto DC
Updated: Feb 24
Yesterday, our partner Chainalysis brought over 300 industry-leading experts from the law enforcement, regulatory and national security communities to Washington D.C for Crypto DC. This free public sector summit is designed to encourage discussion and analysis of the current threats and opportunities facing the crypto sector and how the industry can better prepare for future innovation as a whole. This event also marked the first time that some of our senior leadership team, Co-Founder & CEO Aidan Larkin, Co-Founder & CFO Hugo Elliot, Chief Investigations Officer Jonathan Williams and our new Public Sector Chief Operations Officer Thomas J Abernathy have been in the same room since we were founded!

TJ was invited to speak on stage with Dani Haston, the Head of Global Asset Management at Chainalysis and Evelyn Baltodano-Sheehan, a partner at specialist law firm Kobre & Kim. They discussed the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors when dealing with crypto asset recovery, as well as the opportunities that the crypto sector is currently presenting to assist law enforcement in the improvement of international asset recovery efforts. The summit covered many different aspects of the current cryptocurrency landscape including the national security implications of the crypto market, the importance of global coordination during international investigations involving crypto and the congressional perspective on passing crypto legislation. Despite such a packed agenda, there was even time to cover the complicated futures of blockchain analytics, cryptocurrency investigations and the regulation of de-centralised finance (De-Fi). As the Asset Realisation partner of Chainalysis, we are delighted to have been involved in such an important summit. Now that virtual assets like cryptocurrencies and NFTs are playing such a large role in some of the world’s most high-profile criminal cases and global conflicts, it’s never been more important to understand both the benefits and the risks of this emerging international industry.
