February Events Recap
1st - 2nd February - Widening the Use of the Proceeds of Crime Act Through Collaboration Conference 2023
Thanks to our recent appointment by the Jamaican authorities, several members of the Asset Reality team were invited back to the island of Jamaica for a two-day conference organised by the Financial Investigations Division, Ministry of Finance and the Public Service. The two-day event at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel focused on widening the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) use through collaboration.
Our Chief Operations Officer (Public Sector), Thomas J. Abernathy, Chief Operations Officer, Connor Filley, Chief Recovery Officer, Joanna Summers, and co-founder & CEO Aidan Larkin spent two days at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel learning about the FID’s plans to widen the use of Jamaica’s Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) through collaboration.

Aidan was also invited to present on the role of cryptocurrencies, NFTs and other digital assets in financial crime. He discussed the basics of digital asset crime, recovery and management, and how our seized asset management platform will help alleviate the current challenges faced by corporate, government and law enforcement agencies when trying to investigate, manage or store this new asset class.
Aidan was delighted to have been invited back to Jamaica to discuss how our seized asset management software can improve digital asset recovery and management on the island:
“Crypto asset recovery gives us the blueprint to properly disrupt illicit financial activity for the benefit of governments, victims and wider society. We are thrilled to be working alongside the Jamaican authorities to raise awareness of the art of the possible in this rapidly evolving sector.”

16th - NWFF Annual Conference
After being appointed as a board advisor for the North West Fraud Forum, Aidan was invited to moderate a panel discussion on cryptocurrency and NFT fraud at the forum’s first annual meeting.
He was joined by our Public Accounts Director, Terry Davies, Dani Haston, the Global Head of Partnerships at our partner Chainalysis and Detective Inspector Lyndon Jones from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU). They discussed how the world of cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and other digital assets can reflect the "Wild West" and the possibilities it holds for future fraudulent activity.
As the only forum of its kind in the North West region, the NWFF provides a unique platform for its members to discuss the industry's most pressing issues, trends and challenges.
Aidan was delighted to moderate the first annual North West Fraud Forum in Manchester:
“From my work in criminal investigation to managing seized assets, the northwest region was the first area I worked in and have always had an affinity with the area. It was wonderful to reconnect with many familiar faces and meet so many talented new ones. Asset Reality is proud to support law enforcement agencies in the region and continue building the infrastructure needed to help victims of fraud.”

24th February - DeFi Retreat Europe
Last week, Aidan was invited to speak on an informal panel discussion at the De-Fi Retreat in Lisbon, Portugal.
He was joined in the Estufa Fria Greenhouse by one of our investors Amanda Wick, the founder & CEO of the Association for Women in Cryptocurrency; Erin Plante, the Vice President of Investigations at our partner Chainalysis and Mitchell Amador, the CEO of Immunefi. They discussed the risks of fraud in decentralised finance with the diverse group of DeFi professionals present.

Aidan was thrilled just to attend the event, let alone be invited to speak:
“My first DeFi Retreat did not disappoint. It was an absolute pleasure to speak on a panel and spend a packed 36 hours with some of the most interesting and dedicated people in the crypto space. It doesn’t feel like work when you genuinely enjoy spending time with good people.”
“A huge thanks to Amanda Wick for inviting me to join her amazing panel alongside the investigative legend that is Erin Plante from our partners at Chainalysis and the very informative Mitchell Amador of Immunefi, a fellow Framework Ventures portfolio company.”
