Bangladesh Police CID and Asset Reality successfully repatriate millions in MTFE fraud proceeds
Bangladesh Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), working with Asset Reality, has successfully repatriated over US$3.6 million to Bangladesh following CID’s investigation into the international MTFE (Metaverse Foreign Exchange) Ponzi scheme.

London / Dhaka – 31 March 2026 – Bangladesh Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), working with Asset Reality, has successfully repatriated over US$3.6 million to Bangladesh following CID’s investigation into the international MTFE (Metaverse Foreign Exchange) Ponzi scheme.
In what marks a first-of-its-kind outcome for Bangladesh in a crypto case of this scale, CID worked with Asset Reality to seize the assets, oversee their conversion to fiat currency to preserve their value, and remit the proceeds back to Bangladesh. The funds will now be administered under Court direction as part of the victim restitution process.
This successful recovery highlights both the complexity of crossborder asset recovery and the value of dedicated specialist support. The seizure, conversion, and return of the assets to Bangladesh required extensive international cooperation and alignment with Court procedures and regulatory requirements in multiple jurisdictions. Such coordination can take months and sometimes years, even for well‑resourced agencies.
By partnering with Asset Reality, CID was able to draw on purpose-built infrastructure and a specialist team with deep operational experience, helping streamline key steps in the process and accelerate the path from seizure to successful repatriation.
Md. Tariqul Islam, Sub-Inspector, CID, Bangladesh Police, said:
“This case marks an important milestone for Bangladesh. Fraudsters rely on the belief that crypto transactions and offshore platforms will put them beyond the reach of justice. In the MTFE case, we were determined not only to identify and seize proceeds held overseas, but also to repatriate those funds through a secure, court-directed process.”
He added:
“CID will continue to pursue proceeds wherever they are held and work with Asset Reality as a specialist partner to ensure assets can be secured, converted and repatriated in support of victim restitution.”
Aidan Larkin, CEO and Co-Founder at Asset Reality, said:
“Bangladesh Police CID showed exceptional leadership in tackling a sophisticated global fraud scheme. Their proactive decision to engage specialist support was key to securing a safe and compliant repatriation of funds.”
He continued:
“Cross‑border asset recovery is highly complex. Without dedicated expertise, many cases simply never reach the point where victims see their money again. We’re working hard to give agencies like CID the tools they need to make it easier to seize and return assets to victims – wherever in the world they may be.”
